One week in Asia just blew by!

Guzie here folks! Writing to ya from the land of the Rising Sun. Wait. I’m pretty sure that’s Japan. Yeap. It’s Japan. Nevermind… point is I’m in Asia, and low and behold it’s already been a week since I landed. Rather than rambling on for a few days worth, i’ll make it somewhat short and sweet. Here is Day 1 people! I know I’m a week behind but slowly I will catch up !

THURSDAY 9/22 – SHANGHAI, CHINA

I got in to Shanghai and quickly made my way to my hotel. I didn’t know where I was going so I called my contact at the club and had her direct the cab driver  to my hotel. It’s kind of a pain not knowing Chinese around Shanghai, so I am doing Rosetta Stone to learn me some mandarin! I can already say “look at the boy” and “these men are reading a newspaper!” But the worst part about learning a language is that even when u learn how to say something, you immediately get a response from someone and have no idea what they are saying! It’s a process… But Shanghai is beautiful! Chinese or not!!! Below is a night shot of some purrty Shanghai buildings

Got my chill on in the telly and headed to dinner at M1NT. What a venue! It reminds me a lot of the high end clubs in Vegas. It has a lounge and restaraunt on one side and full on nightclub on the other. Even a friggin shark tank!!! I met up with Solarz who I haven’t seen in nearly a month, and we had a good hug and even better meal. The food is top notch and if you’re ever in Shanghai, go ahead and come here. Unfortuntaely, it’s not cheap. But the food is defintely the “bollocks” as the English sometimes say. NOTE: Some of you may know that “bollocks” generally means “crappy” or “shit.” Well much like in America we say something is shitty or we can say something is “the shit,” bollocks works in much the same way. THIS BLOG IS THE BOLLOCKS BABY!!!

Solarz and I threw down the late set and smashed the club to bits! It was a fantastic night. They said they hadn’t seen the energy that high on a Thursday. What can I say? WE ROCK THA CLOUGHB PEOPLE!!! Gathering our belongings and having drunk ourselves into oblivion, we parted ways because I wanted to FINALLY get some good rest on a bed (sleeping on a plane is not restful for me!). So i mosey on to the hotel. On  the way home I spot the best american invention, McDonalds, and of course the stomach commands the brian at 4am so I go inside. But what I saw freaked me out. It was eerie. Almost everyone in the place had their heads down. At first I thought I had walked into a huge game of “Heads up, 7 Up.” I ordered my meal and got out of there quick! But not before snapping some good footage! Later on I asked someone about this strange occurence, and they quite smugle answered that a lot of the young people crash in the Mcdonalds to sleep off their drunkness.  What a concept! Sleep off drunkness!? Asia is amazing yo! Haha…Got majorly lost on the way home and walked in the wrong direction for what seemed like a mile but finally made it home to eat a cold burger and fries. Guzie in Asia: T-minus 7 days

Yeap

Only less than a week away I will say goodbye to this side of the Earth and welcome a new land. A land full of beautiful culture, amazing history and holders of the deed to the White House basically. AIYAH! They are like one phone call away from getting collection agencies to bother all of us at work for that ginormous debt we owe them. But as Urkel would say, “Don’t fret my pet.” Somewhere between “Do Laundry” and “Get gigs” I have scribbled down in my Toodle-Do app to “Talk to China. Work on gettin debt reduced.” There’s almost a solid -5% chance that I will get to it. I dunno why I thought that app would make me more productive, I spend more time writing down the stuff I gotta do then actually doing it! But alas, Iphones don’t make you productive… Blackberrys do!!

Solarz has been pretty happy out in Shanghai though, as you may have already read. He has been recalling his adventures to me over various google chats, google voice calls and the like. It’s kinda tough because with the time difference we are basically on opposite schedules. But we got some good time in over the last few days or so. Gotta love technology!

THURS, FRIDAY & SATURDAY –  9/1 – 9/3 M1NT (SHANGHAI, CHINA)

Solarz has a busy week, starting off his residency at M1NT this Thursday and doing the Friday & Saturday as well. If you aren’t in Asia, well tough cookies…(NO SOLARZ 4 U!!) but if you are in and around Shanghai def pay my better half a visit and see what all the fuss is about. You know, like why someone would fly 9,000 miles just to dj He is one of the best party rockin DJs in the US and very proud to call him my brotha from another mutha and another daddy. Bring comfy shoes.

Meanwhile at the lab, I continue to work on a few lingering projects. Mainly a few new remixes, new productions, a new CD and of course I’m all about this new website. And yes this week I also take a further step into my 30s. 30s u say??? But Guzie, you look so young??!! Thank you, I moisturize! No but seriously, I do have a birthday this Sunday but I have a few gigs this week I would love to see everyone at. After all Djing is the selfless act of being in charge of everyone’s happiness at a nightclub while simultaneously being paid a bunch of money. Sounds like a #winwin folks!

FRIDAY 9/2 – Le Colonial

This spot is one of those “best kept secrets” that every city has. It’s got an AMAZING dinner menu too w/Vietnamese fusion cuisine downstairs and bar/lounge upstairs. It doesn’t rock the high end sound system, or crazy lights, but it just has a good mix of people who will dance to most anything. Love playing here.

SATURDAY 9/3 – Harlot

This place is def one of my fav hot spot in the city. The dreary Gothic den sort of vibe really lets you know you are in a cool venue.  And the bass packs A LOT of punch for a small room. A LOT. Seriously, clubs twice the size wish they had a sound system this good. Always a good time here and with my Bday happening at midnight I expect nothing else but utter debauchery. See u there!

SUNDAY 9/4 – My ACTUAL Bday

Sorry guys but no nightclubs on my Bday. It’s a Sunday and I need to get my fantasy draft stuff in order for the draft which is on Monday. I’ll keep it local and chill maybe watch a movie with my girl, play some Wii, save the world. The usual.

MONDAY 9/5 – Manic Mondays @ MATRIXFILLMORE

The Bday festivities end with an exclamation point! Manic Mondays is of course both a Bangles hit, and a San Francisco party staple. This spot is my favorite hangout when I have friends coming in from out of town. The venue is pretty nice as well. It’s layout is like someone’s penthouse pad, complete with indoor fireplace, chic decor and extensive selection of fine spirits. My fellow DJ and Mashup God Dj Mei-Lwun started this party more than 3 years ago, and I am glad it’s still goin and gladder still I get to be a part of it. There is also going to be a “Titty Cake” in the works, so at least that’s guaranteed titties in your face for the night. Bonus.
