DOUBLE TROUBLE @THE GRAND 7/7

Earlier this year the Bay Area opened a brand new venue that has been making a lot of buzz in the nightclub scene. Lots of beautiful people, insane DJ talent and celebrities have been have been seen inside the Bay Area’s newest venue: THE GRAND.

Join us this Saturday July 7th, 2012 as we celebrate our first of hopefully many nights headlining this venue. We have a facebook event page open and we can get everyone who RSVPs on the guestlist. This party is GUARANTEED to sell out so don’t sleep people!!!  Get there as early as you can because this place hits capacity URRRLY! Doors open @9:30 and we are slated to start closer to midnight or so. We will have some cool giveaways for the fans so please come and invite all your friends. We feel very privelaged to be doing this kind of a show in our hometown-the rest of the country has been spoiled. But this is our chance to give the Bay Area a taste of what the rest of the World gets to see!! Because of the high demand, long lines and general craziness of the party, please, please, PLEASE RSVP as this will maximize your chances of getting in.  See you Saturday!

You ‘Member Mondays

Your friendly neighborhood Guzie Guz, here takin you down memory lane….

U ‘member right?!!! U ‘memberrrrrrr!!

The Beyond Baggy Anchor Blue Jeans?? The CD Walkwans with 20 second ESP? The giant tub of 3 Flowers you used to buy?? No? Well, maybe that was just me then ;P

Even if you don’t remember all that you might remember Bone Thugs & Harmony- iconic Hip Hop crooners of yesteryear. Best way to describe em is Boyz II Men meets Horrorcore Hip Hop. A while back they threw a string together of classic albums (2) that made 1994 and 1995 a pleasure to survive high school to. I highly suggest listening to both albums. Their freshmen release under Ruthless Records “Creepin on ah Come up” and of course the classic “E. 1999 Eternal.” And while I try to sing/rap along as best I can I still end up mostly gibbersishing my way through most verses! However, they do hold a special place in my heart mostly because of the era of music which it represents: 90s Hip Hop. So unique and different they did to Hip Hop what even Ja Rule couldn’t really do – make singing GANGSTA!

Anywho, here’s our take on one of the 90′s best tracks: “The Crossroads” Bones & Bass Refix Prod. by the Rock-It! Scientists. A special treat to everyone who visits our website… enjoy!

To Our Friends & Fans

Hey guys,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we are no longer remix artists on Crooklynclan.net. We will still continue to remix and Dj, that won’t change, but from now on you will not find our remixes on that website. For some of you not familiar with the site, it was started by Dj Riz & Dj Sizzahandz (AKA: The Crooklyn Clan). It’s a website where DJs can find mashups, remixes and cool shit to play at the club. At the time of it’s inception, DJs just started to make the jump to using laptops to DJ, and needed a good source of MP3s to light the club on fire. Records were heavy, expensive and so they went the way of the Nintendo, pager and VHS. Back in 2007, we debuted on the site and lit the bitch up! We have had a number of high selling tracks including “Heaven On Earth Break,” “Show Me Lollipop,” and one of the best sellling tracks of all time: “Timbaland Break.” For the past 5 years we have played all over the country and been blown away from the numerous emails, handshakes, pictures, and general praise, fans as well as Djs have shown us. We know that without the exposure on the site, and Djs downloading, and appreciating our vision of music, we would never have had the chance to be heard all over the world- so for that an extra special thanks to the DJs. And even if you aren’t a DJ, if you ever played a CD or put someone on to our remixes, be you girlfriend or wife of a DJ, grandma, Crossfit enthusiast or School Crossing Guard- from the bottom of our hearts- Thank You! (actual professions of fans btw!! and yes DJ girlfriend/wife is a profession, just ask any DJ girlfriend or wife!)

For the past few years we have pushed the boundaries of production, and have in a sense “outgrown” mashups. Today we tend to think of ourselves as artists- who just happen to have one foot in the dj world and another in music production. Nearly all of our energy is hell bent on making original production for other artists or our own unique beats. We have had a few official label releases including remixing Wynter Gordon’s ‘Til Death”, Martin Solveig & Dragonette’s “Hello” and the ubiquitous pop mega hit “Like A G6″ by Far East Movement. Of course we still make “mashups”, “bootlegs”, “refixes”, “relaunches”, “remixes” or “rmxs” or whatever you want to call them.  And in case you are wondering, we will release a few of these and some classics from Crooklynclan.net on our Soundcloud, Facebook and Twitter so make sure you add, like and follow us on there so you will know when we realease the goodies. As always anything we give out on our site is free, all that we ask is that you tell a friend about it, RT, share (don’t we sound like a Ronco infomercial right about now), so that we can grow our fanbase. You never know when that person could know a promoter, club owner, other dj, new artist or rapper who we could someday work with in the future. Oh- and if you know Simon Cowell, make sure he gets a few CDs too! Let’s get on the show!!!! See the story here…. laugh your ass off about it here.

Crooklynclan.net is still a hotspot for Djs to find music. And there are still many talented producers on there, but if you’d like to continue to support us, until we start a merchandise store on our site :D the best way is to come to a show! Again many thanks to everyone these past 5 years, and here’s to bigger and better things!

ROCK-IT! SCIENTISTS DO DAMAGE IN SINGAPORE

Updating the continuing saga of the Asia Tour, last week we rocked a very special event for Johnnie Walker in Singapore. Once a year formula 1 racing comes to Singapore for a weekend and all the city catches F1 FEVER. If you’ve never experienced attending one of these events, this is not full of the stereotypical redneck folks who watch NASCAR in the states. That stigma memo has not reached anyone’s desk out here. No, to the contrary, the event is quite chic and the parties are very high end. We saw McLaren Benzes and Lamborghinis parked outside. Several actually. We were very blessed to do one of the highlights of F1 weekend: the JET BLACK Party.

Arriving at the city we immediately headed to sound-check and got to tuning our equipment and checking to make sure everything is set up properly and sounding ok. Soon after we were joined by DJ TINA T and DJ M.O.S. They were all headlining the event along with us. We also met local Singapore DJ phenom DJ FM who got the crowd going early. After sound-check, we retreated back to our hotels in a frenzy. Why? Because the city is so breathtaking that we KNEW we wanted to stay another day!! Calling airlines for about an hour or so, we were disappointed to find out it would cost too much, and we decided to keep our current flights. Guess we will never experience the night safari :( At least on this trip. There’s always next time!

After a freshening up at the hotel, we had meet and greet at the club with some fans and local winners of a contest in Singapore for Johnnie Walker. We chit-chatted with them about Singapore, music, culture answered some questions and then had a light meal and drinks on the patio outside. The view from here was spectacular. There was this SICK laser show across the water too!  Props to the Mahfia for the dope shot during the laser show!

Apart from the HUGE Sands casino across the water with what appears to be a huge boat on top of 3 towers, the entire city has marvels of architecture. They love their unique buildings here in Singapore. The city is mad lush and tropical too. They manage to incorporate all kinds of plant life in the facades of buildings, lobbies, airports, you name it! Shoulda posted some quality pics to facebook! Oh btw, Singapore unlike China, does not block facebook. But it does much like China block all the naughty websites. It is interesting to note, if you remember, Singapore was also the home to the big “caning” incident with that American teen Michael Fay  who vandalized some stuff out there. His punishment was 4 months in jail and 4 canings, who by local accounts is so painful that you pass out immediately from the strike! The laws out in Singapore are no joke, apart from vandalizing, here are some other offenses that will get you locked up, smoking weed (18 months in jail), spitting (hefty fine), littering (fine), importing chewing gum (fine), etc. Well I think my magnet will summarize plenty of the big ones :D

By the time we started playing the club was already jumpin. Our set didn’t start til 2am so we proceeded to enjoy the Johnnie Walker open bar til then. Locally in Asia, they drink this combination of green tea and whisky that is outrageously good. When we weren’t drinking that we also had some special cocktails in the spirit of the whole F1 thing like the “Checkered Flag,” “Full Throttle” and “Grand Prix.” All in all is was a fantastic experience. We threw down til around 4am! Took some pics with some die hard aficionados and made our way back to the hotel for a good’s nights rest. The next day just did a bit of shopping, sightseeing, mahjong purchasing and then it was back to Shanghai! Big thanks to John Bosco Lopez and Funkguru productions for bringing us out! Party pics below!

One week in Asia just blew by!

Guzie here folks! Writing to ya from the land of the Rising Sun. Wait. I’m pretty sure that’s Japan. Yeap. It’s Japan. Nevermind… point is I’m in Asia, and low and behold it’s already been a week since I landed. Rather than rambling on for a few days worth, i’ll make it somewhat short and sweet. Here is Day 1 people! I know I’m a week behind but slowly I will catch up !

THURSDAY 9/22 – SHANGHAI, CHINA

I got in to Shanghai and quickly made my way to my hotel. I didn’t know where I was going so I called my contact at the club and had her direct the cab driver  to my hotel. It’s kind of a pain not knowing Chinese around Shanghai, so I am doing Rosetta Stone to learn me some mandarin! I can already say “look at the boy” and “these men are reading a newspaper!” But the worst part about learning a language is that even when u learn how to say something, you immediately get a response from someone and have no idea what they are saying! It’s a process… But Shanghai is beautiful! Chinese or not!!! Below is a night shot of some purrty Shanghai buildings :D

Got my chill on in the telly and headed to dinner at M1NT. What a venue! It reminds me a lot of the high end clubs in Vegas. It has a lounge and restaraunt on one side and full on nightclub on the other. Even a friggin shark tank!!! I met up with Solarz who I haven’t seen in nearly a month, and we had a good hug and even better meal. The food is top notch and if you’re ever in Shanghai, go ahead and come here. Unfortuntaely, it’s not cheap. But the food is defintely the “bollocks” as the English sometimes say. NOTE: Some of you may know that “bollocks” generally means “crappy” or “shit.” Well much like in America we say something is shitty or we can say something is “the shit,” bollocks works in much the same way. THIS BLOG IS THE BOLLOCKS BABY!!!

Solarz and I threw down the late set and smashed the club to bits! It was a fantastic night. They said they hadn’t seen the energy that high on a Thursday. What can I say? WE ROCK THA CLOUGHB PEOPLE!!! Gathering our belongings and having drunk ourselves into oblivion, we parted ways because I wanted to FINALLY get some good rest on a bed (sleeping on a plane is not restful for me!). So i mosey on to the hotel. On  the way home I spot the best american invention, McDonalds, and of course the stomach commands the brian at 4am so I go inside. But what I saw freaked me out. It was eerie. Almost everyone in the place had their heads down. At first I thought I had walked into a huge game of “Heads up, 7 Up.” I ordered my meal and got out of there quick! But not before snapping some good footage! Later on I asked someone about this strange occurence, and they quite smugle answered that a lot of the young people crash in the Mcdonalds to sleep off their drunkness.  What a concept! Sleep off drunkness!? Asia is amazing yo! Haha…Got majorly lost on the way home and walked in the wrong direction for what seemed like a mile but finally made it home to eat a cold burger and fries. DAY 1 in the books! Peep the vid of Mcdonalds if ya don’t believe me!! Next blog post: SINGAPORE!

Guzie in Asia: T-minus 7 days

Guzie in Asia: T-minus 7 days

Yeap :D

Only less than a week away I will say goodbye to this side of the Earth and welcome a new land. A land full of beautiful culture, amazing history and holders of the deed to the White House basically. AIYAH! They are like one phone call away from getting collection agencies to bother all of us at work for that ginormous debt we owe them. But as Urkel would say, “Don’t fret my pet.” Somewhere between “Do Laundry” and “Get gigs” I have scribbled down in my Toodle-Do app to “Talk to China. Work on gettin debt reduced.” There’s almost a solid -5% chance that I will get to it. I dunno why I thought that app would make me more productive, I spend more time writing down the stuff I gotta do then actually doing it! But alas, Iphones don’t make you productive… Blackberrys do!! ;)

Solarz has been pretty happy out in Shanghai though, as you may have already read. He has been recalling his adventures to me over various google chats, google voice calls and the like. It’s kinda tough because with the time difference we are basically on opposite schedules. But we got some good time in over the last few days or so. Gotta love technology!

As a side-note, if you are regularly visiting this website to get a heaping helping of Asia from the Solarz perspective, make sure to bother him on his twitter account: @djsolarz and get him to get his Hemmingway on! And while you’re at it, if you don’t already follow me or the Rock-It! Scientists, your prayers have been answered! Click on @djguzie or @rockitscientist and get ur follow on!!!

Lookin forward to rockin some good parties in Asia! Shanghai, Singapore, and Hong Kong ain’t ready yo!!! One final gig this Saturday at Infusion Lounge and then I leave on Wednesday. Countin the days baby!!
